Software solutions for sheet metal forming

AutoForm Engineering GmbH, manufacturer of software solutions for sheet metal forming, is bringing the latest software version "AutoForm R8" to AEE 2019. This release contains new functions to support customers in optimizing the digital process chain. With AutoForm R8, users can first define the layout for a single or double part and then quickly evaluate and compare different nesting options. The software enables springback compensation based on any geometry, eliminating the need for simulation results. The actually scanned components, mostly as STL files, can be used as a basis for the compensation.

Compare Nesting Options

"An important advantage of "AutoForm R8" is the improved definition of the strip layout," says Dr. Markus Thomma, Corporate Marketing Director of the company. "First, the user can define the layout for a single or double part and quickly compare different nesting options. This software version allows easy prediction of possible board shapes and nesting, minimization of material usage and early prediction of component costs. In addition, the new strip connection design feature allows users not only to use predefined shapes, but also to model desired shapes with just a few commands.

Compensation without component simulation

This software version also offers more springback compensation capabilities: it allows users to use real and non-virtual measurements for compensation. Since compensation is based on any geometry, no component simulation results are required. This allows tools to be compensated using data from different sources such as measurement, fold simulation or assembly simulation.

Finally, AutoForm R8 enables users to develop a feasible forming process for sheet metal parts from patchwork blanks. The simulation can thus be used to estimate the formability of components and to test various sizes and configurations of patchwork blanks.
