Functional components of automobiles are subject to high loads and must be protected against environmental influences and corrosion in the long term. Stone chips, dirt, salt, rain and heat challenge the components on a daily basis. In order to maintain component functionality in the long term, an effective coating is of high relevance. Effective protective coatings such as zinc flake systems from Dörken MKS can help to significantly extend the service life of components. They can be applied in very thin layers – a system consisting of base and top coat, 8 to 20 µm thin – both on bulk materials and on large components. The zinc flake systems not only offer a high level of cathodic corrosion protection, but also meet the regulations and increasing quality requirements of the manufacturers. Depending on the size and geometry of the components, a coating is applied using various application techniques.
At this year's Automotive Engineer Expo, visitors to the joint stand of Dörken MKS and ACS will be able to watch in hologram boxes how a leaf spring is coated with a zinc flake system by means of spray application and a wishbone by means of dip-dip centrifuges.
