AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING EXPO Newsroom
At the booth of Tillmann Profil, manufacturer of cold-rolled profiles, a large spectrum of profiling technology and manufacturing processes can be seen. This ranges from hybrid profiles and battery carriers to curved profiles for roof construction. These include assemblies, components and laser-welded special profiles that are used in the automotive industry, in vehicle construction or in the electrical and construction industries. "The possibilities for profiling are almost unlimited in terms of variance, materials and shapes," explains Managing Director Ekkehard Böhm. "One example is the processing of high-strength steels, which are therefore predestined for lightweight construction, one of the central development goals of the automotive industry. Optimum use can be made of the material properties by using profiles with different material thicknesses and products in hybrid construction, such as a steel-aluminium mix. Together with the Automobil Center Südwestfalen, Tillmann Profil has completed a project to develop a joining process that combines the hot joining of steel and plastic with the use of bonding agents and successful trials last year. In order to increase adhesion and corrosion resistance, a research project "Laser Structured Surfaces" was initiated in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute IWS.
