Stäubli Connectors travels to the AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING EXPO 2019 with a new tool changing system for robots. The new "MPS 631" is characterized by a high degree of flexibility and design freedom.
The new "MPS 631" tool changer with a maximum payload of 630 kg and torsional moments of up to 5,000 Nm can be used for a wide range of applications, especially in applications with different manufacturing technologies where it is important to attach as many transmission modules as possible. The modules can now be attached to the robot flange in an improved space-optimized manner to make the best possible use of available space, making more module slots available. Users can look forward to new possibilities and greater design freedom with the "MPS 631".
Stäubli has incorporated a lot of user feedback into the design of the new tool changer: A single standardized interface is available for all transmission modules. In this model, inductive sensors permanently monitor the operating signals for high reliability. The newly developed, integrated bus module "IDA 631" bundles all interface functions for the sensors during the tool change process and for the actuators in the working area of the robot. The compact module processes all signal and control current transmissions and integrates monitoring of the complete tool change process via the bus system into the robot controller.
Changer series under own management
New data and servo connectors with improved shielding properties are also available, as are primary circuit connectors with optimized housing designs. Both modules are equipped with the patented "Multi-Lam" technology for reliable signal transmission and an optional quick-change head.
In order to guarantee maximum changer availability, Stäubli is the only manufacturer in the world to develop and manufacture all changer series in-house. The locking mechanism, the media modules and the complete connection technology come from a single source. The "MPS 631" meets the strictest requirements and safety standards in automotive production, including DIN EN ISO 102018-2 with Performance Level PL d, Cat. 3.
Stäubli will also be presenting the MPS 260 robot tool changer for medium payloads and a multi-coupling system for use in body shop production lines.
