AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING EXPO Newsroom
Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH (NMF) is a state research institution of the Free State of Bavaria and bridges the gap between university research and industrial production. At Automotive Engineering Expo 2019, the researchers will present a process that combines the established interval hot pressing technology with the advantages of direct processing of plastic granulates, thus offering greater efficiency and flexibility. In addition, NMF will show what the step towards digitization in automotive production can look like: In a demonstration factory, visitors can experience live the potential offered by blockchain technology for metal processing with existing series production systems.
When characterizing materials, NMF carries out test trials, numerical simulations, feasibility studies and component analyses for industrial partners. These serve as the basis for efficient process, tool and component design. The use of tailored materials adapted to the processing and the stresses to which they are subjected makes it possible to reduce the total weight of vehicles and components and thus to reduce the use of materials and costs. The result is tailor-made semi-finished products and components with optimized properties.
The institute develops new materials and manufacturing processes in the field of metals and plastics as well as composites and hybrid materials. Multi-stage processes make it possible to manufacture thermoplastic fiber composite semi-finished products in short cycle times and high quantities. In addition, NMF establishes novel production processes up to the production of prototypes and small series.
