Automotive supplier Misumi offers a new Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating in Nuremberg. It prevents aluminium adhesion and cold welding between the aluminium component and the steel pin and, according to the manufacturer, should greatly reduce the abrasion of the aluminium component.
The DLC coating has a high hardness of up to 3000 HV and an extremely low coefficient of friction of Rz 0.8. Tests at OEM have so far shown a cycle number / service life that is more than 100 times higher. Also in the luggage in Nuremberg: The Weld Spatter Resistant (WSR) coating, i.e. a welding spatter-resistant coating. Instead of a steel pin, a ceramic pin is used, which, according to the manufacturer, is intended to ensure greater process reliability. The currently running test shows very good results even after six months in series production, whereby the test environment is 2 cm next to the resistance welding and is subject to high wear.
The Japanese company's strengths in the automotive sector lie in its fast delivery times: The production of a positioning pin according to OEM specifications without coating only takes six days including shipping. In addition to high quality - the worldwide damage rate is 0.002% - the company also scores with 99% adherence to delivery times; just-in-sequence deliveries are possible at any time. In addition to know-how in the "Body in White" area, Misumi offers more than 70 percent Bill of Materials (BOM) coverage with its own components in the area of clamping and measuring devices or gripper/transport systems and more than 1.2 million other parts in the online shop.
